I paint oil paintings and watercolors in a realistic style. I have always
been interested in seeing as well as possible, even beyond the
capabilities of the human eye. I am a retired university Professor of Cell
Biology. I have been fortunate to spend my life looking at cells of
marine animals through microscopes. Early on, I employed electron
microscopes because I wanted to see the ultimate details of cells. Later
on, technological advances permitted amazing imaging of cells using
light microscopes. Throughout my career, I was awestruck by the beauty
and complexity of cells. I had always been interested in art as well as in
marine life. In college, I won 97 albums from a local radio station in an
art contest. After college, I painted off and on, mostly family portraits.
Now that I am retired and living in Biloxi, I have the time and desire to
concentrate on art. I strive to become a better artist every day. Most of
my paintings concern marine life and marine settings and are primarily
derived from photographs taken along the Gulf Coast by my wife and
me. I am expanding into painting native plants as well as still life
paintings. I plan on offering classes in portrait painting or drawing at the
gallery. I welcome commissions of all types including portraits.
