Mae Niolet is a watercolorist and color pencil artist. Her work maintains a strong illustrative style. She is a retired professor from Delgado Community College in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she taught fine art and graphic design.
Mae draws her inspiration from the down-home views and memories of central Mississippi to the swamps and marshes of Louisiana as well as the natural environments of coastal Mississippi. She is a lover of birds and they appear in her work either directly or collectively in her imagery.
"Now that I am retired, I paint for the pure joy of painting and exploring subject and medium and I’ve given myself permission to have fun doing it. I like to paint what I observe in nature creating colorful and sometimes whimsical environments. The opportunities for artists on the coast is amazing. The spirit of past artists is still so alive in the artistic community of this area and I find it so inspirational."
